Is duct cleaning necessary due to dust storm?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I’ve noticed a persistent cough and sneezing whenever I’m in my bedroom. The HVAC unit in there has been running non-stop to try to clear out the smell of dust, but it’s not getting any better. My kids have also been complaining of sore throats and congestion. Is it worth having the ducts cleaned, or could this be causing our health issues?

Dust storms can indeed kick up a lot of particulates that find their way into your home's HVAC system. In Dubai and the UAE, it's not uncommon to experience such weather conditions which can lead to significant dust buildup within the ducts and air handling units. This is especially concerning when symptoms like coughing, sneezing, sore throats, and congestion are reported by family members.

First off, while we all hope that a thorough cleaning of your HVAC system might resolve these issues, it's always best to have a professional inspection done. That way you can pinpoint the exact source of the problem and ensure effective resolution. Here in Dubai, following local regulations such as those set out by the General Services Authority (GSA) for commercial buildings, or by the Ministry of Community Development & Social Affairs (MCDSA) for residential areas is crucial.

Professional HVAC technicians who are certified in duct cleaning can use specialized tools to assess the condition of your system and provide a thorough clean if necessary. They will also check filters, coils, and other components that may be contributing to poor indoor air quality. If you've noticed persistent issues after a dust storm, it's definitely worth considering.

In terms of action, I would recommend reaching out to Saniservice at 800-MOLDS or via email at hello@saniservice.com for a free consultation and quote. They have the expertise and tools needed to ensure your system is clean and running efficiently. Remember, keeping your HVAC system in top condition not only improves air quality but can also enhance energy efficiency.

While waiting for an appointment, you might consider changing your air filters more frequently and perhaps using a portable HEPA filter to help reduce allergens in high-use areas of the home. This can provide some temporary relief until the professional inspection is completed.

Stay healthy and take care!
