Is damp smell after storm harmful?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy storm last month, I noticed a strange damp smell lingering in my living room, even after cleaning everything. The AC seems to be running overtime too, but it doesn’t seem to clear the air as well as it used to. Have others experienced similar issues with indoor air quality after storms? What could be causing this and how can I improve the situation?

Hey there! The damp smell you're noticing after the storm sounds like it could be related to humidity levels and potential moisture issues which are quite common post-storms here in dubai. It's not uncommon for folks to experience similar issues, especially given our climate.

In the UAE, especially during heavy storms or even just high humidity periods, there can be an increase in moisture content that leads to damp odors. This could stem from several sources such as water intrusion into walls, floors, or even HVAC systems. In your case it sounds like it might be affecting your living room and causing issues with the air conditioning too.

The good news is that addressing this isn't overly complex but does require some attention. Start by checking for any visible signs of water damage or moisture around window areas, door frames, or behind furniture. If you notice anything unusual, it's wise to get a professional inspection as per UAE building codes and regulations.

To improve the situation:
• Ensure your AC is functioning properly and consider having a check-up with an HVAC expert
• Improve ventilation by opening windows during dry periods (just make sure it's not too windy)
• Use dehumidifiers if you find that moisture levels are high
• Seal any gaps or cracks where water could enter
• Clean your air ducts to remove any accumulated dust and mold spores

Remember, in case the smell persists despite these steps, it might be a good idea to call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for further assistance. They can provide detailed inspections and remediation if necessary.

Taking action now will help maintain better indoor air quality and prevent potential health issues linked with mold growth or other airborne contaminants that could arise from prolonged moisture exposure in your home.
