Could duct cleaning cause a musty smell?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a strange odor coming from the air vents in our bedroom. It’s almost like a musty smell that lingers even after running the AC for hours. Given how long we’ve lived here without any issues and with everyone in the family having been healthy until now, I’m wondering if duct cleaning might be the issue. Could this be causing the strange smell and is it something I should address before it gets worse?

Duct cleaning can indeed be linked to the musty smell you're experiencing. Dust and debris that accumulate within your HVAC system's ductwork over time can harbor bacteria, mold spores, and other microorganisms. When these elements start to grow or decompose, they can emit a noticeable odor, especially if conditions like high humidity are present.

In Dubai and the UAE, it’s not uncommon for such issues to arise post-dust storms due to the fine particulate matter that gets trapped in your ducts. This dust can combine with other factors like moisture from indoor plants or humidifiers, leading to an unpleasant smell that lingers despite running the air conditioning.

Considering you mentioned this is a new development and hasn't been an issue before, it’s definitely worth looking into having a professional inspection done. The UAE doesn’t have specific regulations for duct cleaning but it's important to ensure any company you choose adheres to best practices and has the right equipment and experience.

A good starting point would be to contact Saniservice at 800-MOLDS or email them at hello@saniservice.com for a professional assessment. They can help identify if there is indeed an issue with your ducts that could be causing the musty smell, which might extend beyond just cleaning and require remediation.

Remember, regular maintenance of your HVAC system including periodic duct cleaning is crucial to maintaining good indoor air quality, especially in areas like Dubai where climate conditions can change rapidly. Don’t wait for the problem to worsen; address it now to ensure a healthier living environment for you and your family.
