Should I worry about mold growth?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rain last month, I noticed a strange mold growth on the ceiling of our bedroom. It’s only in one corner but it looks quite concerning with some blackish patches appearing. My partner has started to experience shortness of breath when we sleep there. Should I be worried about this?

Absolutely, you should be concerned about the mold growth in your bedroom. Mold can indeed pose significant health risks especially in high humidity and damp environments like those we experience after heavy rainfalls in Dubai/UAE.

Mold spores are commonly found in indoor air and can be harmful when they grow on surfaces such as ceilings or walls. The blackish patches you're noticing could indicate a particularly problematic strain of mold, often referred to as Aspergillus or Stachybotrys – both known for their darker coloration and potential health effects.

Breathing issues like shortness of breath, especially during sleep, can be symptoms of mold exposure. These can range from respiratory irritation to more severe allergic reactions in individuals with pre-existing conditions such as asthma. Additionally, mold can affect the immune system and cause or exacerbate other ailments.

Given your situation, I'd strongly advise you to contact a professional for an inspection without delay. In Dubai/UAE, there are specific regulations that require buildings to maintain certain standards of indoor air quality, and these guidelines should be adhered to when dealing with mold issues. You can reach out to Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for assistance.

Saniservice is a reputable company that specializes in environmental inspections and remediation services, including mold testing and removal. They will assess the situation, determine if it's safe to stay in the room until remediation takes place, and work on eliminating the source of moisture causing the mold growth. Remember, addressing this issue promptly can prevent further health complications for you and your partner.

Stay vigilant about indoor air quality and take necessary steps to ensure a healthy living environment for yourself and your family.
