Can I clean the dust by myself?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm a few days ago, I noticed an awful layer of dust has settled on every surface in my living room. The furniture, shelves, and even the ceiling fans are coated with it. Given that we’ve lived here for two years and just noticed this, do you think I can handle cleaning all by myself or should I consider hiring a professional?

Cleaning the dust by yourself is definitely doable and can be quite manageable given your circumstances. However, considering the UAE's climate, where dust storms are common, it might be worth evaluating if a professional service could offer better results and save time.

Firstly, ensure you have all necessary tools for effective cleaning. In Dubai/UAE, it’s wise to use microfiber cloths or dusters as they are less likely to scatter the dust into the air. Also, consider a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filters that can capture finer particles, which is especially important in environments like yours where there's been such an accumulation.

Start by removing the obvious large pieces of dust from surfaces using a soft brush or duster. Then, use a damp cloth to wipe down surfaces for a deeper clean without leaving any water marks. For ceilings and fans, gently vacuum them with a crevice tool attachment. If you notice any stubborn stains or residues, a gentle solution of mild detergent and warm water might do the trick.

Given the UAE's stringent building regulations and health standards, it’s crucial to ensure that cleaning products used are safe for indoor environments. You may want to check if your local stores stock approved products or consult with a professional for recommendations.

However, here is where things get tricky. After two years of living in an environment prone to dust storms, it's possible there could be more than just surface level dust issues. Mold and other allergens can develop in such conditions which might not be visible but can significantly impact indoor air quality.

A professional inspection for mold or other contaminants is highly recommended. This will ensure your home remains healthy and safe. Should you require assistance, you can contact us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. We offer thorough inspections and remediation services that can help maintain the best indoor environmental quality.

Cleaning yourself might be a good start but if you’re concerned about long-term health impacts, a professional’s expertise is invaluable.
