Could duct issues cause our symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

Since we moved into our new apartment in downtown Dubai two months ago, I’ve noticed a persistent musty odor coming from the hallway right next to my bedroom. My kids have also been complaining of coughing and runny noses since the air conditioning was turned on last week. Could this be related to the ducts needing cleaning?

Absolutely could be! The musty odor and respiratory issues your family is experiencing sound very much like they could be linked to the state of your ducts. In Dubai, the climate can be quite harsh, especially during the summer when we crank up our air conditioning systems. Over time, dust, mold spores, and other allergens can accumulate in your HVAC system's ductwork, leading to such issues.

In the UAE, there are no specific regulations mandating regular duct cleaning but it is highly recommended for maintaining indoor air quality and overall health. Regular maintenance of your HVAC system, including duct cleaning, should be part of your routine upkeep. Dubai’s high humidity levels can create a perfect breeding ground for mold, which could easily spread through the ventilation system, causing the musty odor.

Given that you've only recently moved in, it's quite possible that the ducts haven't been cleaned since installation or may have become neglected over time. The coughing and runny noses from your kids can be linked to allergens like dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander that are often found in dirty duct systems.

I'd definitely recommend a professional inspection by a company with experience in the UAE. They'll be able to assess the condition of your ducts, identify any issues, and provide you with a cleaning plan if necessary. In Dubai, it's not uncommon for air quality problems to go unnoticed until they become severe, so proactive measures are key.

If you do decide to proceed with an inspection, contact us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional assessment and remediation services tailored to the local climate. Ignoring these symptoms can lead to more serious health issues down the line. Don't hesitate to act now to safeguard your family's well-being.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial, especially in such a hot environment as Dubai. Regular cleanings of your HVAC system can help prevent future problems and ensure a healthier living space for you and your family.
