Should I worry about mold in my basement?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains last month, I noticed a persistent musty smell coming from the basement where we store most of our winter clothes. The humidity seems to be quite high even with the dehumidifier running, and my kids have been coughing more than usual lately. Is there anything specific I should look out for or do to improve the indoor air quality in that area?

Hey there! Mold in your basement can indeed be a concern especially during these rainy months. In the UAE, including Dubai, we've got some strict guidelines to ensure indoor air quality but the musty smell and increased coughing from your kids are definite signs that you should take action.

First off, it's important to inspect for mold properly. Check if there’s any visible growth or discoloration in the basement area. Mold thrives in damp conditions so if your dehumidifier isn't keeping up with the high humidity levels, it could be a breeding ground for this pesky stuff. You might also want to check around pipes and walls to see if they’re damp as these areas can harbor mold.

Now, given the UAE's climate and recent weather, it’s not uncommon to have some moisture issues. But persistent coughing is no good for your kids' health. Professional inspection by a company like ours could be highly beneficial. We offer services that go beyond just identifying mold; we also provide remediation solutions tailored specifically for our region.

Another thing you can do right away is improve ventilation. Open windows (if possible) to let in fresh air and use fans or dehumidifiers more effectively. Also, consider running an air purifier as it might help filter out some of the spores floating around. Just make sure your air purifier is suitable for high humidity environments.

Don't hesitate to give us a call at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or drop us an email at hello@saniservice.com if you need more help. We can provide a thorough inspection and recommend the best course of action to keep your home safe and healthy for everyone.

Remember, early detection is key in preventing mold growth from becoming a bigger issue down the line. Stay proactive and take care of it now!
