Is poor air quality from AC causing kids' coughs?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be running pretty much all day and night lately, even with the windows closed. I’ve noticed a musty smell coming from the vents, especially during these humid summer months. My kids have been coughing more than usual, and I’m starting to wonder if it’s because of the air quality inside our home. Could this be causing their symptoms?

Absolutely, the musty smell and constant running of your AC could be signaling some serious indoor air quality issues. In the UAE especially during these humid summer months, such conditions are quite common due to the climate. In Dubai, it's crucial to keep a close eye on the air inside your home as poor air quality can indeed exacerbate respiratory issues in children and adults alike.

Firstly, the AC unit could be collecting moisture which leads to mold growth, particularly if there’s not enough ventilation or if filters aren’t replaced regularly. Mold spores are known triggers for asthma and other respiratory conditions, especially among kids who might have weaker immune systems. The continuous operation of the AC without proper maintenance can also lead to a buildup of dust, bacteria, and other allergens that get circulated throughout your home.

Given these symptoms with your children - more coughing than usual - it’s highly probable that indoor air quality could be impacting their health. In fact, in Dubai, we see many cases where such issues are directly linked to poor HVAC maintenance or design.

I would strongly recommend getting a professional inspection of your AC system and overall home environment. Here at Saniservice, we offer comprehensive air quality assessments that can pinpoint exactly what’s going on and provide tailored solutions.
