Who should fix the potential mold on my ceiling?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a strange greenish-black growth on the ceiling of my bedroom. It's in the corner near where water might drip from the roof, but I'm not sure if it’s mold or something else. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed this, and I’m unsure who is responsible for addressing it—me as a tenant or the landlord?

The potential mold growth on your ceiling does sound concerning and could indeed be a serious issue. In the UAE, particularly within Dubai's building regulations, it is generally the responsibility of the landlord to ensure that premises are safe for habitation. However, tenants have certain rights as well, especially when it comes to maintenance issues like this.
Given the environment in Dubai, which can be quite humid and warm, mold growth could develop more quickly than you might think. It's crucial to identify if this is indeed mold before attempting any self-repair or remediation work. Greenish-black growths are often indicative of mold but could also be other types of fungi or even algae depending on the conditions. I would highly recommend having a professional inspection done by contacting Saniservice at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. They can provide you with accurate identification and advice tailored to your specific situation in Dubai. In the meantime, avoid touching or disturbing the area as this could spread spores around. If it is confirmed that mold is present, remediation should be handled by professionals who are equipped with the right tools and knowledge to safely remove and clean up any mold growth without causing further damage to your home or health risks for you and your family. Remember, in Dubai, tenants have legal rights under the Landlord and Tenant Law which can support their claims if maintenance is not addressed adequately. It's important to document everything – take photos of the mold area, note the date and time when you first noticed it, and keep a record of any communication with your landlord or property management. Taking these steps will help ensure that your concerns are addressed properly and efficiently in line with local regulations and best practices for mold remediation. |
