Can I clean the dust storm damage myself?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had a couple of weeks ago, the carpets and furniture in our living room are looking really grimy. It’s hard to breathe sometimes when I walk through there with all the dust settling back down. Do you think it would be manageable for me to tackle this cleaning myself or should I consider hiring professionals?

Cleaning up after a dust storm can be quite the challenge. In Dubai and the UAE, it's important to consider both your health and safety as well as compliance with local regulations. While tackling this task yourself could save you some money, there are several factors to keep in mind.

Firstly, the carpets and furniture may have accumulated not just dust but also fine particles which can be harmful if ingested or inhaled. The UAE doesn't have specific regulations for indoor air quality after a dust storm, but it's wise to ensure that your home is clean and safe for you and your family.

If you decide to go the DIY route, start by wearing protective gear such as gloves, a mask, and goggles to minimize exposure to any harmful particles. Begin by using a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to suck up most of the dust. Follow this by gently washing surfaces and fabrics with a mild detergent solution. For carpets, you might want to use steam cleaning or professional carpet shampooing solutions.

However, if your home has experienced significant damage from the storm, it's advisable to call in professionals for an inspection first. A professional can assess whether there are any hidden mold issues that could arise from the dampness and dust. This is especially important because high humidity after such storms can create conditions favorable for mold growth, which isn't uncommon here in Dubai.

If you notice any signs of water damage or suspect mold, don’t delay in contacting a specialist. At Saniservice, we offer comprehensive inspection services to ensure your home returns to its best condition without compromising on safety and health standards.

In conclusion, while DIY cleaning might be manageable for minor dust storms, it's crucial to prioritize your family’s well-being by ensuring proper cleanup methods are used or by seeking professional assistance if needed. Remember, your health comes first.
