Should I clean ducts after dust storms?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms last week, I noticed a layer of fine gray dust on all the furniture in my living room. The windows were closed tight to keep out the sand, but now that we’re airing things out, it’s really noticeable. My kids have been coughing a lot lately and I’m worried it might be from breathing this stuff in. Has anyone else experienced similar issues with duct cleaning or poor air quality after storms? Should I call a professional to clean the ducts?

Absolutely, cleaning your ducts after dust storms is a smart move. The fine gray dust that you're noticing on your furniture sounds very much like the aftermath of those storms we had last week. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, dust storms can be quite frequent and they often bring with them a hefty load of particulates that end up inside your ductwork.

In our experience here at Saniservice, we've seen a significant increase in calls for duct cleaning following such events. The particles from sandstorms can contain not only sand but also pollen, mold spores, and other allergens which can certainly contribute to respiratory issues like the coughing that you're observing in your kids.

UAE regulations do require regular maintenance of HVAC systems, including periodic duct cleaning. This is especially important given our environment where dust storms are a common occurrence. The Dubai Municipality also recommends checking and maintaining air filters regularly to ensure the best indoor air quality.

Given the symptoms your children have been experiencing, it might be wise to call in a professional for an inspection. Not only can they clean out the ducts, but they can also check if there are any other issues that might be affecting the air quality in your home. At Saniservice, we recommend our clients schedule a thorough inspection and cleaning at least once a year, or more frequently if you've experienced a particularly bad storm.

Remember, just like you close windows to keep out sand during storms, closing vents can help prevent further influx of dust into your system but it doesn’t address what's already inside. A professional will be able to remove the accumulated dust and debris that gets trapped in your ducts over time, ensuring cleaner air throughout your home.

So if you're considering action, give us a call at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. We have experienced technicians who can assess your system and provide the necessary cleaning services to improve your indoor environment.
