Is poor air quality making my kids sick?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be running constantly lately, but it still doesn't feel like it's cooling the place enough. My kids have been complaining of feeling cold even though the temperature inside is set fairly high. I’m worried because they’ve also had a stuffy nose and coughing fits since last week. Is this something to do with mold or poor air quality in our unit, or could there be another health risk we should be looking out for?

It sounds like your concerns about the air quality and its impact on your children's health could very well be valid. Given the climate and environmental conditions in Dubai, it's not uncommon to encounter issues related to indoor air quality (IAQ), especially during extreme temperatures or when the AC isn't functioning optimally.

In dubai, we often face high humidity levels which can create a breeding ground for mold if moisture control measures are inadequate. Mold growth can lead to respiratory issues and exacerbate existing allergies in children. Furthermore, poor circulation of fresh air and over-reliance on recirculated air by your AC could be contributing factors.

The constant running of the AC but still feeling cold indoors might suggest that the system isn't effectively removing warm air or there's a blockage somewhere. This can lead to stagnant air which is less healthy for everyone in the home.

Moreover, symptoms like stuffy nose and coughing fits are common indicators of poor IAQ. These could be signs of exposure to irritants such as mold spores, dust mites, or even volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from materials used in your apartment's construction.

Given these concerns, it would be prudent to have a professional inspection done. In the UAE, specific regulations like those outlined by the Department of Health regarding indoor air quality can provide guidance on acceptable standards. A company like Saniservice, which I recommend you contact at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com, could offer an expert evaluation and necessary remediation services.

In the meantime, make sure to keep your home well ventilated when possible, use dehumidifiers in damp areas of your apartment, and regularly clean air conditioning filters. These simple steps can help improve IAQ while you wait for professional assistance.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial for everyone's health, especially children. Don't hesitate to take action if you suspect any issues.
