Is landlord responsible for bathroom cleaning?« Back to Previous Page

I'm renting an apartment and noticed cleaning staff in the bathroom. Is this the landlord's responsibility to fix? I'm not sure what my rights are here.

In the UAE, particularly within Dubai, the responsibilities of landlords and tenants can sometimes be a bit blurred. Generally speaking, it's up to the tenant to ensure their apartment is clean and habitable but there are certain areas where the landlord may have some responsibility.
For bathrooms specifically, they should remain clean as part of maintaining the overall condition of the property. However, the task of daily cleaning typically falls on the tenant or a contracted service provider by the tenant, not necessarily the landlord. The UAE Real Estate Agency Law (Law No. 21 of 1984) does not explicitly state that landlords must provide regular bathroom cleaning. That being said, if you notice unsatisfactory conditions in your apartment, it's always best to bring these issues to the attention of your landlord first. Many landlords are willing to work with tenants on maintaining a clean and healthy living environment. If they agree, they might even arrange for professional cleaning services which can be quite beneficial. If you feel that the bathroom is not being maintained properly or if there are serious issues like mold growth, it would be wise to request an inspection from a professional company. At Saniservice, we offer comprehensive environmental inspections and remediation services specifically tailored for residential properties in Dubai and the UAE. You can call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. Remember though, it's important that you document any issues before requesting a service. Take photos, note dates, and keep copies of all correspondence with your landlord. This can help in case the situation escalates beyond simple cleaning issues. In most cases, landlords are expected to maintain the property in good condition but they might need some guidance or negotiation on how best to address specific concerns. Always approach the conversation professionally; highlighting that you're willing to work together for a harmonious living environment. |
