Who is responsible for cleaning under kitchen cabinets?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains last month, I noticed a persistent musty smell coming from under the kitchen cabinets in my rental. The AC seems to be blowing out some of the dust into the living room too. For cleaning retail spaces like these, are tenants expected to clean underneath the cabinets ourselves or is this something the landlord should take care of?

Cleaning under kitchen cabinets can be quite tricky given the tight spaces and the potential for moisture which could lead to mold growth. In dubai/uae, it's generally expected that tenants are responsible for maintaining their living spaces, but there might be specific clauses in your rental agreement.

Firstly, check your lease agreement as some landlords may have a clause stating that tenants need to clean these areas regularly. If not mentioned, and you've noticed persistent smells or dust issues, it would be prudent to inform the landlord about this. They are often responsible for ensuring the premises meet certain standards of cleanliness and structural integrity.

However, if your landlord is reluctant to address the issue, consider contacting a professional inspection company like 800-MOLDS (or 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com) who can provide expert advice. In many cases, they might recommend that you clean these areas yourself as part of your regular maintenance routine.

To effectively clean under cabinets, use a vacuum cleaner with an extension hose and brush attachments to reach tight spots. Ensure the area is dry before cleaning; if there’s any moisture or smell of mold, it's wise to address this promptly by drying out the space thoroughly or possibly using a dehumidifier.

Remember, regular inspections are key to identifying potential issues early on. If you're still unsure about your responsibilities, it might be best to reach out to your landlord for clarification. After all, a clean and healthy living environment is everyone's priority!
