Should I clean ducts due to dust storm?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I noticed a significant amount of dust collecting in the vents of my living room. The AC unit also seems to be working much harder than usual to cool down the space. Given how long it’s been since we last cleaned the ducts and the recent increase in symptoms like coughing among family members, is this something urgent that needs immediate attention or can I wait a bit?

Absolutely, the recent dust storm has likely caused an influx of particulates and allergens into your living space. Given that you've noticed increased dust accumulation in the vents along with the AC unit working harder than usual, this could be a sign that your ductwork is due for some attention.

In Dubai and the UAE, it's recommended to clean your HVAC system annually or biannually depending on local environmental conditions, especially when there are events like dust storms. The UAE doesn't have specific regulations mandating how often ducts must be cleaned but health and safety guidelines suggest regular maintenance to ensure proper airflow and reduce allergens.

The symptoms you're experiencing - coughing among family members - could very well be linked to poor indoor air quality due to these particulates getting circulated through your home. This isn't just a comfort issue; it can also lead to respiratory issues, especially in those with asthma or allergies.

Given the severity of the dust storm and its aftermath, I would recommend scheduling an inspection as soon as possible. A professional inspection will help determine if the ductwork is severely impacted and needs immediate cleaning. At Saniservice, we provide thorough duct cleaning services that not only remove accumulated debris but also sanitize your system to improve overall air quality.
