Should I address kitchen water pooling myself?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a lot of water pooling under the kitchen tiles near where my children play. The landlord hasn’t addressed it yet, but I’m not sure if this is something I should handle since we’re in high-occupancy and need to keep things hygienic for everyone. Should I address this myself or wait for the landlord to do something about it?

Absolutely, addressing the water pooling issue is crucial for maintaining a clean and healthy environment, especially considering high occupancy. In Dubai/UAE, it’s important to ensure that water management systems are up to scratch, as per the UAE Building Code (UAE-BC) which mandates proper drainage solutions to prevent such incidents.

Firstly, you should take immediate action to mitigate the pooling by removing any standing water and ensuring good air circulation in the area. Use a mop or cloth to clean the affected tiles, then dry them thoroughly. Open windows if possible to allow natural ventilation which can help reduce moisture levels. However, it’s essential to check whether the water is coming from a leaking pipe or fixture, as this might indicate a more serious issue.

Given the high-occupancy nature of your space, especially with children around, it's critical to prevent mold growth which can be detrimental to health. In Dubai, regulations such as the UAE Building Code and Environmental Health Standards require landlords to maintain premises in good condition to protect tenants from hazards like water damage and mold.

I would recommend having a professional inspection done to identify the root cause of the pooling. Saniservice offers comprehensive environmental inspections and remediation services which are well-regarded in Dubai. Their expertise can help you understand if there’s an underlying plumbing issue or any other factors contributing to the problem, ensuring that it is resolved properly.

If you're unsure or feel overwhelmed by handling this on your own, don't hesitate to reach out for professional advice. Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for a consultation. Remember, keeping your environment hygienic and safe is paramount, especially with children involved.
