Should I worry about ducts and air quality?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms we had last month, I noticed a lingering smell of dirt and mold in the living room where my children usually play. It’s really concerning because they spend most of their time there. The ducts run right above that area. Should I be worried about the air quality and is it necessary to have the ducts cleaned?

Absolutely, the recent dust storms can indeed contribute to poor indoor air quality and might explain that lingering dirt and mold smell. In Dubai/UAE, such conditions are common and it's wise to be proactive about your home's air quality.

Firstly, the UAE has its own set of environmental standards for indoor spaces, though there isn't a specific regulation solely on duct cleaning. However, maintaining good air quality is vital, especially in areas prone to dust storms like we had last month. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) recommends regular maintenance of your home's HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance.

Given that the ducts run above where your kids spend a lot of time, it’s understandable you might be concerned. Dust, mold spores, and other allergens can accumulate in the ductwork over time, especially after storms. This can affect not only air quality but also the comfort and health of your family members.

To address this issue, I recommend having a professional inspection done. Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for an assessment. They can identify any issues such as mold growth, dust accumulation, or other contaminants that could be affecting air quality. Depending on the findings, they may suggest duct cleaning to remove these hazards.

Regular maintenance of your HVAC system is key in Dubai’s climate. Ducts should ideally be cleaned every 3-5 years, but this can vary based on usage and environmental conditions like dust storms. Professional cleaners will use specialized equipment to thoroughly clean the ductwork, ensuring a healthier environment for you and your family.

Remember, keeping indoor air quality high is crucial, especially in such climates where dust storms are common. Taking action now could prevent potential health issues down the line.

Take care of that living room and your kids' wellbeing by addressing this issue sooner rather than later.
