Is duct cleaning my landlord's responsibility?« Back to Previous Page

I'm renting an apartment and noticed duct cleaning in the bathroom. Is this the landlord's responsibility to fix? I'm not sure what my rights are here.

Duct cleaning is indeed a bit of a grey area when it comes to responsibilities between tenants and landlords. In dubai, uae, the responsibility can be somewhat ambiguous as there are no specific laws mandating duct cleaning or specifying who should bear the cost. Generally speaking, your landlord might be responsible for ensuring that the air quality in common areas is maintained but not necessarily every individual apartment.

However, if you're renting an apartment and notice that the bathroom ducts need cleaning, this could be considered part of a regular maintenance schedule to ensure good indoor environmental quality (IEQ). It's always a good idea to discuss with your landlord what they consider to be their responsibilities regarding maintenance. Make sure to have clear communication about who is responsible for duct cleaning and related costs.

In the emirates, we do recommend that you get in touch with your landlord as soon as possible to clarify this. If the issue isn't resolved, or if you feel that your health might be at risk due to poor air quality, it would be wise to seek a professional inspection. At Saniservice, we can provide an assessment and advice on what needs to be done.

Remember, while regular duct cleaning is not always mandated by law, it's crucial for maintaining good indoor air quality, especially in areas like bathrooms where moisture can build up leading to mold growth. If you find that your health or well-being has been affected due to poor air quality, consider documenting this and discussing with your landlord.

If after all these steps the issue persists, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for further assistance. We can help you navigate through the complexities of tenant rights and indoor environmental issues in dubai.

Lastly, if you are unsure about what your rights are as a tenant, it might be helpful to consult with a local property management expert who can provide guidance specific to your situation.
