Who is responsible for balcony dust?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy sandstorm we had a couple of weeks ago, I’ve noticed this persistent layer of fine dust on every surface in my living room. It’s really starting to bother me since it feels like it’s coming from outside and not settling despite regular cleaning. The balcony is right next to an open window which might be letting the dust in, but I’m not sure if it's my responsibility or if the landlord needs to address this. Does anyone know what's typically expected in these situations regarding upkeep?

In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, dust is an inevitable part of life. After that recent sandstorm, i've seen many folks experiencing a similar issue with fine particles settling on surfaces within their homes. The responsibility for maintaining cleanliness can sometimes be tricky when you're unsure if it's coming from outside or inside.

in general, the landlord is usually responsible for ensuring the property meets health and safety standards, which includes managing dust and other pollutants. however, in some cases, such as those involving sandstorms or external factors, the onus may shift to the tenant to take preventive measures. this can include keeping windows closed during storms, using air purifiers, and regularly cleaning surfaces.

in your case, since you mentioned that your balcony is right next to an open window, it's possible that some of the dust might be coming in from outside. however, regular cleaning should still be part of your routine regardless of where the dust originates.

if you're experiencing persistent issues despite your efforts, i'd recommend contacting a professional environmental inspection and remediation company like ours at 800-MOLDS or email us at hello@saniservice.com. we can assess the situation thoroughly and provide specific recommendations tailored to your living space in Dubai.

it's also worth considering whether there are any local regulations you should be aware of, though i'm not certain about specific laws regarding dust accumulation in residential areas here. nonetheless, staying informed about environmental issues like this is crucial for maintaining a healthy home environment.

keep up the good work with your regular cleaning routines and don't hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance or advice on how to tackle this issue effectively.
