Could ductwork cause my bedroom symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a persistent dry cough and runny nose whenever I spend time in my bedroom, especially at night. The windows are usually closed due to the air conditioning, but there's still this weird odor that lingers. Could it be related to the ductwork? Has anyone else experienced similar issues or knows if regular duct cleaning can help with these symptoms?

Could ductwork cause my bedroom symptoms? That's a great question and one that many people living in Dubai might be asking after the recent dust storms. The answer is yes, it could very well be related to your ducts.

In the UAE, particularly in cities like Dubai where we often have dusty conditions or sandstorms, it’s not uncommon for dust particles, pollen, mold spores, and other allergens to find their way into our HVAC systems through poorly sealed ductwork. Once inside, these irritants can circulate throughout your home, especially when the air conditioning is on. If you've been experiencing a dry cough and runny nose since the storm, it's quite possible that your bedroom environment has become a bit of a breeding ground for these allergens.

In Dubai’s climate, where we rely heavily on air conditioning, it's important to keep our ducts clean. Dust accumulation in the ductwork can lead to a buildup of contaminants and create an unpleasant odor which you mentioned lingering even with windows closed. This isn't just uncomfortable but could also exacerbate respiratory issues for those with allergies or asthma.

It’s worth considering that regular maintenance might be necessary. The UAE doesn’t have specific regulations mandating duct cleaning, but the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) recommend it every 3-5 years depending on usage and environment.

If you suspect your ducts are a source of your discomfort, consider having them inspected by a professional. At Saniservice, we offer comprehensive duct cleaning services that can remove accumulated debris and ensure your system is operating efficiently. Our team uses advanced equipment to reach all corners of the ductwork and effectively clean out any contaminants.

Remember though, if you experience severe symptoms or if your condition worsens after cleaning, it might be wise to consult with a healthcare provider to rule out other potential causes.
