Should I clean ducts or notify landlord?« Back to Previous Page

After the intense sandstorms we had last month, I noticed a persistent dust accumulation in the vents of our living room. It’s a rental property, and I’m not sure if it’s my responsibility to have the ducts cleaned or if this should be taken care of by the landlord. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed this issue. Should I bring this up with the management?

The issue of dust accumulation in your vents could be a concern and something worth addressing. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, duct cleaning is recommended every 2 to 3 years based on environmental conditions. The recent sandstorms you experienced might have contributed to this buildup.

Firstly, it's essential to understand the regulations. In the UAE, tenants are not automatically responsible for duct cleaning unless specified in their lease agreement or if they're the ones causing excessive dirt due to negligence. However, given that you've only just noticed the issue after two years of living there, it’s likely your landlord has been neglecting this aspect.

A prudent step would be to notify your landlord about the dust accumulation and request a professional inspection. If the issue persists or if you're uncomfortable with waiting for them to act, consider having the ducts professionally cleaned by a reputable company like Saniservice. They offer services in Dubai tailored to local environmental conditions and can ensure that your home's air quality remains top-notch.

Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com if you decide to proceed with professional cleaning. Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial for health, especially considering the sandstorms we encounter here in Dubai. Clean ducts not only improve air quality but also enhance energy efficiency of your HVAC system.

If after inspection by a professional it’s found that the landlord has been negligent and you’re still unsatisfied with their response, you might want to escalate this matter through local tenant rights organizations or legal advice available in the UAE. It's important to act now as dust accumulation can lead to respiratory issues over time.
