Is duct cleaning linked to our symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I’ve noticed a persistent cough and congestion in my chest when I’m in the living room. The air feels particularly dry and dusty there, especially right after the AC has been running for a while. My kids have also been complaining of itchy eyes and sneezing fits, which is unusual as they’re generally not bothered by allergies. Could this be related to duct cleaning or lack thereof?

Absolutely, duct cleaning could be linked to your symptoms. The dust storm last month may have introduced a significant amount of particulates into your living space and these might be lingering within your HVAC system's ductwork. In the UAE, especially in Dubai, our climate can exacerbate issues like dry air and dust accumulation which can irritate the respiratory system.

The persistent cough and chest congestion you're experiencing, along with the dryness and dustiness of the air could very well stem from poor indoor air quality (IAQ). With the AC running, it's likely these particulates are being circulated through your home. This situation might be causing inflammation in your respiratory passages, leading to those symptoms.

Your kids' complaints about itchy eyes and sneezing fits suggest an allergic reaction or irritant exposure, which could also be linked to poor air quality. In the UAE, where we often experience high levels of airborne particulates from various sources including dust storms, it's not uncommon for these to trigger reactions in those with sensitivities.

Given the situation, I'd recommend a professional inspection of your HVAC system and ducts. In Dubai, you can call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for an expert assessment. They'll be able to clean out accumulated dust and debris from your ductwork which could significantly improve IAQ.

Regular maintenance of your HVAC systems is crucial in the UAE given our unique climate conditions. Even without apparent issues, it's a good idea to have your system checked annually by professionals who understand local conditions and regulations such as those outlined in the UAE Building Code for Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ).

Remember, keeping indoor air clean can greatly reduce health risks and improve comfort levels, especially during periods like these when we experience extreme weather events.
