Should I hire an indoor air quality specialist?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be running more than usual lately, and I’ve noticed a slight musty smell coming from it. Given that we've lived here for two years and just noticed this, I’m starting to wonder if there might be some hidden health risks related to mold or poor ventilation. Should I consider hiring an indoor air quality specialist to check on this, or are these issues usually pretty straightforward and easily resolved?

Absolutely, it sounds like you're experiencing some concerning signs that might point towards mold growth. In Dubai and the UAE, given the warm climate and high humidity during certain times of the year, this could indeed be a serious issue. The musty smell coming from your AC system is often an early warning sign of potential mold problems, especially if it’s been going on for a while.

Firstly, it's important to understand that in the UAE, there aren't specific regulations mandating regular indoor air quality checks, but maintaining good IAQ (indoor air quality) is key to ensuring a healthy living environment. The Ministry of Community Development and Labor has guidelines which recommend periodic inspections especially when you notice unusual smells or signs of moisture.

Given what you've described, it would be prudent to hire an indoor air quality specialist for an inspection. They can do a thorough check of your apartment, including the AC unit, damp areas behind walls, and other potential sources of mold growth. A professional will also test the air quality inside your home to assess if there are any harmful contaminants present.

Remember that while some basic cleaning might resolve minor issues, persistent or widespread mold problems often require more than just a quick fix. Ignoring these signs can lead to health risks for you and your family, as exposure to mold spores can cause respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and in severe cases, can exacerbate asthma symptoms.

So don't hesitate! Give us a call at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. Our team of experts is here to help ensure that you and your loved ones are breathing clean air and living in a safe environment.

And remember, early detection is key. Don’t wait for the smell to get worse before taking action!
