What could cause white powder after dust storm?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I noticed a layer of fine, white powder on all the surfaces in my coworking space downstairs. It’s really strange because it’s not usually this bad, even with regular cleaning. Has anyone else experienced something similar or have any ideas what might be causing this?

The white powder observed after the dust storm could be due to a variety of factors. In the UAE and Dubai specifically, we often experience strong winds and sandstorms which can deposit fine particles on surfaces. However, the unusual presence of such a layer of powder post-storm warrants further investigation.

One potential cause is the release of fine particulates from construction sites or nearby areas where soil has been disturbed. With the recent dust storm, it's possible that more particles were airborne and then settled on your coworking space's surfaces. Another possibility could be a reaction between the sand and certain chemicals present in the environment, leading to the formation of this white powder.

Additionally, some building materials might release small amounts of calcium carbonate or other minerals when exposed to moisture from the storm, which can appear as white deposits over time. This is not uncommon in areas with higher concentrations of limestone or other similar rocks near construction sites or industrial zones.

Given the unusual nature and extent of this layer, it would be prudent to have a professional inspection done. This will help determine if there are any underlying issues that need addressing to maintain good indoor air quality (IAQ) for your space. At Saniservice, we specialize in such inspections and can provide detailed reports on what might be causing the powder and how best to remediate it.

For more information or to schedule an inspection, you can call us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. We understand how important it is to have a clean and healthy workspace for productivity and well-being, especially after such unusual weather events.
