Where is this white dust coming from?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a fine white dust settling on everything in our bedroom. It’s particularly noticeable on the windowsills and furniture near the construction site next door. We’ve lived here for two years and just can’t figure out where it’s coming from or how to stop it. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

The white dust you're noticing might be due to construction activity near your residence. In the UAE, building sites can produce significant amounts of particulate matter that can travel through the air and settle on nearby surfaces. This phenomenon is common during rainy weather as moisture helps particles adhere more easily to surfaces.

In Dubai specifically, there are regulations in place for construction dust management under the UAE Federal Law No. 12 of 2008 concerning Environmentally Harmful Activities. Construction sites must implement measures such as covering materials, using water suppression systems, and maintaining proper site security to control dust emissions. However, it's not uncommon for dust from nearby projects to spread beyond the immediate construction zone.

To identify the source precisely, a professional inspection by an environmental consultancy or building sciences expert would be beneficial. They can use specialized equipment like particle counters or air samplers to pinpoint the exact cause and extent of the dust problem.

In the meantime, you could take some preventive steps:
• Use HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters in your home’s ventilation system.
• Keep windows closed during windy or rainy weather to minimize dust entry.
• Regularly clean surfaces with a damp cloth to reduce accumulation.
• Consider using air purifiers which can help filter out fine particles.

If the issue persists, it might be wise to contact a professional service. You could reach out to Saniservice at 800-MOLDS or email them at hello@saniservice.com for a consultation and remediation plan tailored to your situation.

Remember that maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial, especially in areas with frequent construction activity. Regular checks and prompt action can help mitigate the effects of dust on your living space.
