Is closed room safe after dust storm?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I noticed a strange odor lingering in my bedroom. It’s particularly noticeable when the air conditioning is on. The windows in that room are always closed because of the noise outside, so I’m worried about trapped allergens and dirt particles. Has anyone experienced similar issues after such storms and how can I prevent this from happening again?

After such intense dust storms, it's understandable to be worried about the safety of your closed room environment. The situation you described is unfortunately pretty common here in Dubai and across the UAE after these kinds of weather events. Dust and particles can certainly accumulate, especially when windows are kept shut.

Firstly, i'd suggest opening all the windows and doors if possible to let fresh air in. This will help dilute any trapped allergens or dirt particles and also reduce that lingering odor you mentioned. However, since it's not always practical due to noise or other factors, running an efficient air purifier can be a good solution.

In Dubai, we often see high levels of dust and particulate matter during storms. This is why it’s important to take steps to clean your indoor environment thoroughly after the storm passes. Use a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner to remove any loose particles from carpets and floors. For hard surfaces, a damp cloth can help without spreading the dust around.

You might also want to consider having a professional inspection done. Here in the UAE, we have specific regulations regarding indoor air quality which companies like ours must adhere to. A professional can assess your room's condition and recommend any necessary steps or treatments.

If you notice persistent odors or if there seems to be an increase in respiratory issues among family members, it might be time to contact a service provider for assistance. Saniservice is one such company that provides reliable mold inspection and remediation services here - their number is 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or you can email them at hello@saniservice.com.

Remember, while opening windows for ventilation can help, it might not be sufficient to fully clean the air in your room. A professional will have the tools and expertise to ensure everything is as safe as possible after a storm.
