Should I clean mold myself or seek pro help?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains we had last month, I noticed a bit of mold starting to form on some of the walls in our coworking space. It's not too bad yet, but it’s definitely growing in one corner by my desk. Should I be able to handle cleaning this myself or does it need professional attention?

Cleaning mold yourself can be manageable if the area is small and the situation isn't too serious. In Dubai, UAE, we often face humid conditions post-rainfall, which can lead to such issues. Mold growing on walls or other surfaces is a common concern for coworking spaces like yours.

If you've noticed it only in one corner by your desk and it's not covering more than 10 square feet, you might be able to handle it yourself with some caution. However, always remember that mold can pose health risks, especially if inhaled or touched, so safety should be a priority.

To start, wear protective gear such as gloves, goggles, and ideally, a respirator. This will help prevent exposure to spores. Clean the affected area thoroughly using a mixture of water and detergent. A solution of 1 cup of bleach per gallon of water can also be effective, but only if the surface is non-porous.

After cleaning, ensure that the area dries completely. Open windows or use fans to increase air circulation. It's crucial to address any moisture source that might have led to mold growth. Check for leaks in pipes or walls and make sure your coworking space has proper ventilation systems in place.

However, if you find that the mold is spreading, covering a larger area, or even if it's just growing too close for comfort, it’s best to seek professional help. The UAE has specific regulations regarding indoor air quality, and professionals have the tools and expertise to handle extensive mold issues safely and effectively.

Remember, in Dubai, we often experience sudden weather changes due to our unique climate, making regular inspections important. If you're unsure about the extent of the damage or how to proceed, don't hesitate to call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for professional assistance.

Taking prompt action can prevent mold from becoming a bigger problem and ensure your workspace remains healthy and hygienic.
