Can I handle dust cleaning myself?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had a few weeks back, I’ve noticed an unusual amount of dust collecting on the office furniture and shelves. My colleagues are away for a week, so it's just me in there with nothing but my trusty vacuum cleaner. Can someone suggest if this is something I can handle myself or if hiring professionals would be better?

Absolutely, you can handle the dust cleaning yourself, especially given that your colleagues will be away for a week. Dubai and the UAE are prone to dusty conditions at times due to our climate and geographical location. Dust storms can indeed leave behind an impressive layer of grime on furniture and shelves.

Firstly, make sure you have all the right tools. In addition to your trusty vacuum cleaner, consider using microfiber cloths or soft sponges for a more thorough clean. Microfiber is particularly effective at capturing dust without leaving any lint behind. For hard surfaces like glass and countertops, a damp cloth should do just fine.

Start by removing any obvious debris with a brush or duster before proceeding to the vacuuming process. This helps ensure that your vacuum cleaner doesn’t just move the dirt around but actually collects it. When using the vacuum, pay special attention to corners, behind furniture, and along baseboards where dust tends to accumulate.

For areas that are particularly dusty or if you find yourself dealing with a larger-than-normal amount of dust due to recent storms, consider hiring professionals. The UAE has specific regulations regarding indoor environmental quality which might be pertinent in such cases. For instance, the UAE Federal Law No. 12 of 2005 on Pests Control and Prevention outlines guidelines for maintaining a clean environment.

If you decide to go it alone but find that dust particles are still visible or if there’s an unusual amount of dust, it might be wise to call in some experts. Saniservice is one such company known for their professional environmental inspection and remediation services. You can reach them at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a consultation.

Remember, maintaining indoor air quality is crucial in Dubai’s climate, especially after events like dust storms. Regular cleaning helps reduce allergens and keeps your workspace comfortable and healthy.

Lastly, ensure that you ventilate the space adequately after cleaning to allow fresh air to circulate. This can help prevent any lingering odors or issues from trapped moisture.

So go ahead, tackle those pesky dust bunnies! If you need more advice or assistance, don't hesitate to call in the experts.
