Loud AC rattling, not cooling: DIY fix or calll technician?« Back to Previous Page

My apartment's AC in the living room has been making a really loud rattling noise every time it kicks on, and it's struggling to get below 26 degrees even at night. We're in an older building in Bur Dubai and I'm worried it's going to completely die right before summer hits. Is this something I can fix myself by cleaning the filters, or do I need to call a professional HVAC technician, and what's a reasonable price range for that kind of repair in Dubai?

Based on the symptoms you've described—loud rattling and an inability to cool below 26°C—this is not a simple DIY fix. While cleaning the filters is excellent routine maintenance, it will not resolve this issue. The loud rattling noise upon start-up strongly suggests a serious mechanical fault, such as a failing compressor, a loose or damaged fan motor, or debris obstructing the internal blower assembly. The poor cooling performance is a direct consequence of this failure.

In Dubai's harsh climate, with its extreme heat, high humidity, and pervasive fine dust, AC units are under constant strain, especially in older buildings in areas like Bur Dubai. This continuous operation accelerates wear and tear. Attempting a repair yourself could cause further, more expensive damage and may void any existing service contracts.

You absolutely need to call a professional HVAC technician. For a standard split-unit repair in Dubai, a reasonable price for a diagnosis and repair for an issue like this would typically range from AED 300 to AED 800, depending on the required parts (e.g., new compressor, fan motor) and the labour involved. Be wary of prices that seem unusually low, as they may indicate subpar service or the use of non-original parts.

Given the complexity, we recommend a comprehensive professional inspection. Our team at Saniservice is highly experienced in diagnosing and resolving such AC failures in line with Dubai Municipality's standards for indoor environmental quality.
