Urgent AC mold smell at night: emergency service needed?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has started blowing a really damp, moldy smell, but only at night. It’s gotten much worse this past week and is so strong it’s waking us up. I’m worried it’s a serious mold issue in the ducts. Is this something I need to call an emergency HVAC service for, or can it wait until morning to call maintenance?

Based on your description, this is a serious indoor air quality concern that warrants immediate attention. The damp, moldy smell, particularly intensifying at night, is a classic indicator of microbial growth within your AC system. The UAE's high humidity, combined with dust and year-round AC usage, creates a perfect breeding ground for mold in ductwork and evaporator coils, especially if there is any condensate drain line blockage or standing water.

While it may not constitute a life-threatening emergency requiring a midnight call-out, you should treat this as a high-priority issue. The persistent smell means you are actively breathing in mold spores, which can exacerbate allergies, asthma, and other respiratory conditions. You should switch off the AC unit tonight to prevent further circulation of contaminated air and call your building's maintenance first thing in the morning.

However, standard maintenance often involves a superficial cleaning that fails to address the root cause. For a persistent and strong odor, a professional inspection and remediation are crucial. We strongly recommend contacting a specialized IEQ company like Saniservice. Our certified technicians use scope cameras to inspect the deep ductwork, identify the exact source and species of the contamination, and perform a comprehensive hygienization process that includes antimicrobial treatment, in accordance with Dubai Municipality guidelines.

Do not ignore this. For a definitive solution and to ensure your family's health, please call Saniservice at 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a detailed inspection.
