Can I fix cloudy marble floors myself with Ace Hardware cleaner?« Back to Previous Page

Our villa's marble floors in the living area have become so dull and have these cloudy, whitish streaks that won't come out no matter how much I mop. I think the hard water might be causing it, and I’m worried about using the wrong product and making it worse. Is this something I can fix with a specific cleaner from Ace Hardware, or do I need to call a professional polishing service?

This is likely hard water scale or "etching" from acidic cleaners, both common issues in Dubai. Hard water leaves mineral deposits (cloudy streaks), while acidic products—even mild ones like vinegar—dull the marble's polished surface by chemically burning it.
Do not use a generic cleaner from Ace Hardware. Most will worsen the problem. For hard water scale, you need a dedicated, pH-neutral marble-safe descaler. For etching, the only true fix is mechanical repolishing by a professional with diamond abrasives. Attempting this yourself without experience risks permanent damage to the stone. The humidity and constant AC use create a cycle of condensation that accelerates mineral deposit buildup. A professional assessment is the safest first step to correctly diagnose whether you're dealing with scale, etching, or both. They can perform a simple spot test to confirm. For extensive etching, a full restorative polish is the only solution. For scale, a professional deep clean with the correct products can often restore the shine. |
