AC mold in Dubai: DIY or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page
|
The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah seems to be leaking a bit of water onto the carpet in the living room, and now we’re seeing a few small black patches of mold starting to form along the base of the wall. We’ve been wiping it away but it keeps coming back within a couple of days. Is this something I can handle myself with products from ACE, or should I just call a professional company for mold remediation and what’s the typical cost for a small area like this?

The recurring mold indicates an active moisture source your wiping doesn't address. In Dubai's climate, with high humidity and constant AC use, this is common. The leak must be fixed first; the AC's drain line is likely clogged with the dust and microbial sludge common here.
For a small, surface-level patch, a DIY approach can work. Use a microfiber cloth and a solution of diluted white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover from a hardware store. Never use bleach, as it doesn't kill the roots and can damage surfaces. Dry the area completely with a fan afterward. However, if the mold returns after a proper cleaning and fixing the leak, the growth may be deeper within the wall or carpet underlay. This is when to call a professional. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find hidden dampness you can't see. Remediation for a small area is a targeted service, not a full-home treatment, so the investment is proportionate to the problem. The critical step is a post-remediation verification test to confirm the mold and its food source are gone; without it, you're just guessing. |
