Dealing with black mold on wall in Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a faint, damp smell coming from the corner of the living room wall. I pulled the big sofa away and found a small patch of what looks like black mold on the bottom of the wall and the carpet feels slightly wet to the touch. What’s the best way to deal with this myself, or should I call a professional cleaning company in Dubai that handles mold?

In Dubai's climate, a damp wall with visible mold and wet carpet indicates a moisture intrusion issue that requires immediate attention. The combination of high external humidity and year-round AC use creates perfect conditions for mold when a water leak is present.
For a small patch (under one square foot), you can attempt to clean it yourself with a solution of one part white vinegar to four parts water. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. However, the wet carpet and hidden moisture within the wall are the primary concerns. The mold you see is likely just the surface manifestation; the real problem is inside the wall cavity. Simply wiping the surface will not solve it. This situation typically requires a professional inspection to identify and stop the water source, which could be a leaking AC condensation line, a pipe in the wall, or seepage from the slab. A reputable indoor environmental company can use moisture meters and thermal imaging to locate the exact source of the leak without unnecessary demolition. After the leak is fixed, proper drying and remediation of the affected wall and carpet are essential to prevent recurrence and potential structural damage. In many villas, this level of diagnostic work is necessary for a permanent solution. |
