AC blowing weak after sandstorm: DIY clean or call pro?« Back to Previous Page
|
My AC in the Mirdif villa has been blowing noticeably weaker this month, and I can see dust accumulating around the vents just a day after I wipe them down. We had that big sandstorm a few weeks ago and I’m worried a ton of fine dust got sucked into the system. Is this something I can tackle myself with a vacuum and some brushes, or is it time to just call one of those professional duct cleaning companies?

That weakened airflow and rapid dust accumulation are classic signs your ductwork has been heavily impacted by the recent sandstorm. The fine, abrasive silica dust common here can coat the interior of ducts and, more critically, build up on your AC's evaporator coil and blower fan, drastically reducing system efficiency.
A surface clean of the vents with a vacuum is a good temporary measure, but it won't address the core issue deep within the system. For a villa in Mirdif, a full DIY duct cleaning is not advisable. The ductwork is extensive, often inaccessible without professional tools, and improper cleaning can damage components or simply push the dust deeper. Given the combination of our intense dust, high humidity, and year-round AC use, this situation calls for a professional assessment. Built-up dust inside the ducts can mix with ambient moisture, creating a potential environment for microbial growth. A reputable company will use high-powered vacuum collection systems and agitation tools to extract debris from the entire network, not just at the vents. They should also be able to inspect and clean the blower assembly and coil, which are the most likely causes of your reduced airflow. Look for providers that offer before-and-after documentation of their work. |
