Pest droppings in pantry: who to call in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of small, dark droppings in the back of our kitchen pantry in Jumeirah. I'm worried we might have mice or some other pest, especially with all the food packets. What's the best way to clean this area safely and who should I call for a proper pest inspection in Dubai?

Stop using the pantry immediately and avoid disturbing the droppings, as they can release harmful particles into the air. In Dubai's climate, with its high humidity and constant AC use, pantries can attract pests seeking shelter and food sources.

For a proper inspection and identification, you should contact a Dubai Municipality-approved pest control company. These licensed operators are trained to handle common UAE pests like mice, cockroaches, or grain beetles, which are often the culprits behind such droppings. They will identify the pest species, which dictates the correct treatment method. Do not attempt to treat this yourself with over-the-counter sprays, as misidentification can worsen the problem.

For safe cleaning after the pest is eradicated, wear an N95 mask and gloves. Do not sweep or vacuum the droppings initially, as this can aerosolize contaminants. Instead, lightly mist the area with a disinfectant spray to dampen everything, then wipe up all debris with disposable cloths. Afterwards, thoroughly disinfect all surfaces. Any open or compromised food packets must be discarded.

Consider storing new dry goods in airtight glass or hard plastic containers to prevent future infestations. A professional service can also advise on proofing measures specific to your villa or apartment's construction.
