Is AC vent dust causing my kids' cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual and I’m worried it’s from the AC vents in our Jumeirah Park villa. I just peeked inside and there's a thick layer of grey dust and some black specks clinging to the fins. Given how much we rely on the AC, is this something I need to get professionally cleaned immediately, or can it wait until the weekend?

The grey dust is likely fine sand and construction debris common in Dubai, but the black specks could be mould growth due to our high humidity and constant AC use. This combination is a very common irritant, especially for children, and is likely contributing to their cough.

You should get it professionally inspected and cleaned as soon as possible, not just for the weekend. Mould spores and fine dust are continuously circulated by the AC, prolonging exposure. In a villa like yours in Jumeirah Park, the entire system—including the hidden ductwork and evaporator coil—needs assessment, as visible vent dust is often just the surface layer.

Look for a provider that does more than just wipe the vents. A proper cleaning should include antimicrobial treatment of the evaporator coil and, crucially, inspection with a borescope to check for contamination deep in the ducts. Any reputable company will show you before-and-after evidence of the cleaning, such as photos or lab results, to verify the job's effectiveness.
