Cost to professionally clean or re-grout bathroom tiles?« Back to Previous Page

The grout between the floor tiles in my Jumeirah villa's main bathroom has turned completely black, and no matter how much I scrub with bleach, it won't come out. I think it might be mold from the humidity. I'm worried it's a bigger job than I can handle myself. What should I expect to pay for a professional to come in and properly clean or re-grout a bathroom this size?

Black grout in a Jumeirah bathroom is a classic sign of deep-seated mould growth, not just surface dirt. The high humidity here, especially from showers combined with year-round AC use creating condensation, provides a perfect environment for it to penetrate deep into the porous grout. Bleach only bleaches the surface and cannot reach the root structure.

For a proper resolution, you need a professional assessment to determine if the issue is limited to the grout lines or if moisture has compromised the substrate behind the tiles. The cost for cleaning versus re-grouting varies significantly. A deep steam clean and antimicrobial treatment by a specialist may suffice if the grout is structurally sound. If the mould has deeply infiltrated or the grout is crumbling, a full re-grouting job will be necessary, which involves removing the old grout, treating the area, and applying new, mould-resistant grout.

Given the villa's location and the potential for underlying moisture issues, you should request an on-site inspection from a company that can provide a detailed scope of work and a fixed quote. Reputable providers will be transparent about their process, often involving moisture meters and post-cleaning verification, rather than giving a generic price over the phone. Always ensure they use products aligned with Dubai Municipality's standards for indoor environmental quality.
