AC grinding noise and no cold air: emergency fix needed?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom AC has been making a loud grinding noise for the last three days whenever it kicks on, and now it’s barely blowing any cold air at all. It’s starting to get unbearable to sleep in here with this heat. Is this something I need to call an emergency technician for tonight, or can it wait until the weekend?

A grinding noise followed by loss of cooling is a serious mechanical symptom, not just a maintenance issue. Given Dubai's current temperatures, waiting days is not advisable.

The grinding likely indicates a failing compressor or seized fan motor. Continuing to run it in this state risks a complete breakdown, turning a repair into a far more costly replacement. The lack of cold air confirms the refrigerant circuit has been compromised, either from the mechanical failure or a resulting leak.

While it may not be a middle-of-the-night emergency, you should schedule a professional AC technician for the next available appointment, ideally within 24 hours. In the interim, turn the unit off completely at the thermostat to prevent further damage. For immediate relief, use a portable fan and keep the bedroom door open to circulate air from other cooled spaces.

This is a common failure mode here due to year-round system strain from dust and heat. DEWA does not have regulations governing repairs, but any technician should be certified to handle refrigerant. The diagnosis will determine if it's a repairable component or requires a full unit replacement.
