Should I clean post-sandstorm dust myself or hire professionals?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing a lot lately and I suspect it's from all the dust that's settled on every surface in our villa after the recent sandstorms. I’ve tried wiping things down, but it feels like a losing battle, especially with the high ceilings and ceiling fans in the living room. Is this something I can realistically tackle myself with a good vacuum, or should I just call in a professional cleaning company to do a deep clean?

Post-sandstorm dust in Dubai villas is a significant irritant, especially for children. The fine silica particles can penetrate deep into the lungs, causing the coughing you're describing. While a thorough DIY clean is possible, the scale of your villa and the presence of high ceilings and fans make it a major undertaking.

For a basic clean, use a HEPA-filter vacuum exclusively—standard vacuums will just blast the fine dust back into the air. Damp wiping all surfaces is essential to capture the dust instead of dispersing it. However, ceiling fans and high areas are problematic; disturbing that settled dust without professional-grade containment and extraction will simply redistribute the allergens throughout your living space, potentially worsening the situation.

A professional deep clean is justified here. They use industrial HEPA air scrubbers to clean the air while working and have methods to safely de-dust high areas and soft furnishings without cross-contamination. This provides a more complete reset of your indoor air quality, which is critical when children are affected. Look for a service that can verify their results, perhaps with before-and-after particle counts, to ensure the job was done effectively, not just cosmetically.
