AC making loud rattling noise - fix myself or call technician?« Back to Previous Page
|
My apartment’s AC has been making a loud rattling noise every time it kicks on, especially in the master bedroom. It’s been going on for about two weeks now and it’s driving me crazy trying to sleep. I’m pretty handy and changed the air filter myself, but that didn’t fix it. Is this something I can troubleshoot on my own, like cleaning the outdoor unit, or do I definitely need to call a maintenance technician?

A loud rattling noise at startup often points to a mechanical issue with the fan motor or blower assembly, or a foreign object lodged inside the unit. Given Dubai's high dust load and year-round AC operation, these components are under constant stress.
While cleaning the outdoor condenser coil is good preventative maintenance, a persistent internal rattle isn't typically a DIY fix. Attempting to disassemble the indoor fan unit or compressor without proper training can void warranties or cause further damage. The issue requires a technician to safely open the system, inspect the blower wheel and motor bearings for damage or debris buildup, and properly reassemble it. For residents in apartments, building management regulations often require any internal AC work to be performed by their approved vendor to maintain central chiller system integrity. It's best to report the issue to them or a licensed HVAC professional for a diagnostic inspection. |
