How to clean pest droppings and who to call?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Al Barsha for two years and just noticed a bunch of small, dark, pepper-like droppings in the back of our kitchen pantry. I'm worried it might be from mice or cockroaches, especially since it's gotten hotter. What's the best way to clean and disinfect the area safely and who should I call for a proper pest inspection in Dubai?

Those droppings are a common sign of pests, especially in our climate where rodents and cockroaches seek cool, dark spaces like pantries to escape the heat. The first step is to identify the pest, as droppings from mice and cockroaches require different cleaning approaches due to disease risks.
Do not sweep or vacuum the area initially, as this can aerosolize harmful particles. Instead, wear gloves and a mask. Ventilate the area by opening a window. Lightly mist the droppings and the immediate area with a bleach solution (one part bleach to ten parts water) or a household disinfectant to keep particles from becoming airborne. Use disposable paper towels to wipe up the droppings and all debris, place everything in a sealed plastic bag, and dispose of it in an outdoor bin. Afterwards, thoroughly wash the entire shelf or cabinet surface with your disinfectant. For a proper inspection, you should call a Dubai Municipality-approved pest control company. The Dubai Municipality maintains a list of licensed providers, and using a licensed company ensures they follow specific regulations for pesticides and methods. They can accurately identify the pest, locate entry points—common in villas due to their structure and the surrounding dust—and implement a control plan that addresses the root cause, which is crucial for long-term prevention in our environment. |
