AC mold causing sore throat and stuffy head? First steps?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a little for a while, but now I’m waking up with a stuffy head and a sore throat every morning. I pulled back the corner of the carpet near the unit and found a bunch of black and greenish spots on the wall. Could this mold be the reason I’ve been feeling so unwell, and what’s the first thing I should do about it?

Based on your description, it is highly probable that the microbial growth you've discovered is the direct cause of your morning sore throat and congestion. The persistent moisture from the AC leak, combined with Dubai's high humidity and dust levels, creates an ideal breeding ground for mold. The spores released into the air can trigger allergic reactions and respiratory irritation, which are often worst after prolonged exposure during sleep.

The first and most critical step is to immediately stop the moisture source. Turn off the AC unit to prevent further leaking and call a certified HVAC technician to repair it. Do not attempt to clean the mold yourself, especially if the affected area is larger than a square foot. Disturbing it without proper containment can cause a massive release of harmful spores throughout your bedroom, significantly worsening the air quality and your symptoms.

Given the visible growth on the wall and the associated health effects, a professional inspection is absolutely necessary. Our certified mold inspectors at Saniservice use specialized equipment like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the full extent of the infestation, even inside walls or the AC system itself, which is common here due to year-round AC use. We then provide a detailed remediation plan following Dubai Municipality guidelines for safe and effective removal.

For your health and safety, we strongly recommend a professional assessment. Please call us at 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
