AC rattling noise: DIY fix or call maintenance?« Back to Previous Page
|
The AC in my bedroom in my Jumeirah Village Circle apartment has started making a constant rattling noise whenever it kicks on, and it’s been keeping me up at night for the past week. I’m pretty handy and have changed filters before, but I’m worried it might be something more serious with the compressor. Is this something I can safely check out myself by taking the cover off, or do I absolutely need to call a maintenance company to avoid causing more damage?

A constant rattling noise at startup is often a loose or unbalanced component in the fan assembly, but a compressor issue is also possible. Given the high dust load and year-round AC operation in Dubai, internal components accumulate significant wear.
For a basic check, ensure the unit is powered off at the circuit breaker. You can safely remove the front cover to visually inspect and vacuum any loose debris from the fan blades and interior. If the noise persists after clearing debris and ensuring the fan isn't obstructed, the issue is likely mechanical. Do not attempt to disassemble the blower fan or touch the electrical components. In the UAE, only DEWA-licensed technicians are legally permitted to handle refrigerant lines and sealed compressor systems. A persistent metallic rattle or grind, especially from the outdoor unit, strongly indicates a professional assessment is needed to prevent a complete system failure. |
