Am I allergic to desert dust?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I’ve noticed a persistent dry cough and irritated eyes every time I come home from outside. The dust seems to get trapped in my bedroom even with the windows shut tightly. Have anyone experienced similar issues or know if there are precautions I should take regarding desert dust?

Absolutely, it’s quite common to experience allergies triggered by desert dust. The heavy storms we faced last month certainly brought plenty of particles into the air that can irritate our respiratory systems and eyes. Here are some tips you might find useful:

Firstly, it's crucial to stay informed about the air quality in Dubai, especially during and after sandstorms. The UAE Environmental Agency often provides updates on the levels of dust and other pollutants which could be helpful.

When it comes to your home environment, consider investing in an air purifier with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter. These devices can trap fine particles including desert dust and reduce indoor pollution significantly. Also, keep your windows shut tight during storms to prevent dust from entering, but remember to open them for ventilation when the air quality is good.

Regular cleaning of surfaces in your home can help too. Use a damp cloth or a microfiber duster which captures more dust than dry ones. It's also wise to wash bedding and curtains frequently as they can collect allergens.

If you're noticing persistent symptoms, it might be worth scheduling a professional indoor air quality inspection. At our company, we offer such services and can identify any underlying issues that could be contributing to your discomfort. The call center number is 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 for appointments.

Lastly, always remember to keep the humidity levels in check. High humidity can worsen allergy symptoms so using a dehumidifier might be beneficial especially if you're experiencing coughing and eye irritation.
