Are dirty air ducts causing my symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a persistent cough and runny nose every time I spend time in my bedroom. The carpet under the vent in the hallway smells really musty too. Could this be related to the ducts? What symptoms should I look out for that might indicate dirty air ducts are causing health issues?

Absolutely, it's very plausible that dirty air ducts could be contributing to your symptoms. In the UAE and particularly in Dubai, where we experience significant dust storms, this can indeed lead to build-up of particulate matter within the HVAC system which can then get circulated throughout your home.

In your case, you've noticed a musty smell from the carpet under the vent and also persistent coughing and runny nose. These are common symptoms that can be linked to poor indoor air quality due to dirty ducts. Ducts can accumulate dust, mold spores, pet dander, and other allergens which can exacerbate respiratory issues.

In Dubai, it's important to note that the environmental conditions can make this issue more prevalent. The hot and dry climate coupled with high humidity periods after rain events can create ideal conditions for mold growth inside ductwork if not properly maintained.

Given your symptoms and circumstances, I highly recommend having a professional inspection of your air ducts. This can be done by a certified HVAC contractor who will assess the condition of your system and provide recommendations based on UAE-specific regulations like the Building Control Regulations which ensure that all buildings meet certain standards for indoor environmental quality.

If you decide to proceed with an inspection, contact 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. They specialize in this area and can help identify if there are indeed issues within your ducts that need addressing. Regular maintenance of your HVAC system is key to maintaining good indoor air quality and ensuring a healthy living environment.

Remember, keeping up with regular cleaning and inspection schedules can prevent future issues and improve the overall comfort of your home.
