Are dust storms linked to respiratory issues and dirty HVAC?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms we had last week, I noticed a layer of dirt accumulating on the window sills and furniture in my living room. The AC vents were also quite dirty with lots of debris stuck inside. My kids have been complaining about stuffy noses and coughs, which started around the same time as the storms. Has anyone else experienced similar issues or should I consider having the ducts cleaned professionally?

Absolutely, dust storms can indeed trigger respiratory issues. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, we've seen several cases where folks experience stuffy noses and coughs following such events. The heavy storms bring in a significant amount of airborne particulates—dust, pollen, and other allergens—which can easily enter your home through open windows or even HVAC systems if they aren't properly sealed.

Regarding the AC vents you mentioned being dirty, that's not uncommon after dust storms. The dirt and debris can accumulate over time leading to stuffy noses and coughs among family members. Duct cleaning is a crucial step in maintaining good indoor air quality (IAQ).

In Dubai, it’s important to note that the UAE doesn’t have specific regulations for duct cleaning like some other countries do. However, it's highly recommended especially if you experience recurring respiratory issues or notice excessive dirt accumulation.

Given your situation, I would suggest getting a professional inspection done. At Saniservice, we offer thorough duct cleaning services that can help remove not only the visible dust but also deeper-seated contaminants. This process ensures your air conditioning system is running efficiently and effectively filtering the air you breathe.

Don't hesitate to contact us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a consultation. We can help assess your specific needs and provide tailored solutions to keep your indoor environment clean and healthy.

Remember, regular maintenance of HVAC systems is key in maintaining good IAQ. If you do decide to proceed with duct cleaning, make sure the service provider uses EPA-approved methods to avoid any cross-contamination or damage to the system.

Hope this helps!
