Are sandstorms causing indoor air issues?« Back to Previous Page

Since the sandstorms started a couple of weeks ago, the constant dust has really taken a toll on my family. My son has been having terrible coughing fits, especially in the evenings when we stay indoors, and my wife complains about her sore throat too. The windows in our first-floor apartment are always closed due to the sand outside, but it still seems to get inside. Have anyone experienced similar issues or have any tips on how to manage this?

Yes, sandstorms definitely can cause indoor air issues. In the UAE and Dubai specifically, we've seen an increase in dust levels since those first few weeks of strong storms. The constant influx of fine particles into your home can indeed affect your family's health. In my experience, it's common for folks to report similar symptoms like coughing fits and sore throats during these times.

To start with, I would recommend keeping all windows and doors tightly closed as you are doing. Using air purifiers that have HEPA filters can be really effective in trapping those tiny particles. The environment here is quite dry which means the sand and dust tend to settle quickly, but they still manage to get inside through gaps.

Given your situation, I'd suggest calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for a professional indoor air quality inspection. They can help identify areas of concern that might not be immediately obvious and offer customized solutions tailored to Dubai's climate.

In addition to these measures, regularly cleaning surfaces with microfiber cloths can help reduce the dust levels. You may also want to consider using humidifiers which can keep the air moisture level up slightly - this can prevent your nasal passages from drying out and irritate them further.

Lastly, try to limit outdoor activities during peak storm periods, and if you must go outside, wear a mask to protect against inhaling excessive dust.

Remember, staying informed about local weather forecasts is key. Many apps and websites provide sandstorm alerts which can help you plan your day accordingly. By taking these steps, you should be able to minimize the impact of sandstorms on your family's health and comfort.

Hope this helps!
