Best cleaner and cloth for black granite countertops?« Back to Previous Page

My cleaning lady does a great job overall, but I keep finding streaks on my black granite kitchen countertops after she wipes them down. She uses a regular blue cleaner and a cloth, but it just seems to smudge and not actually clean properly. I’m in a villa in Al Barsha and want to provide her with the right supplies. What is the best specific cleaner and type of cloth I should buy for this kind of surface to prevent the streaking?

That's an excellent question and a very common issue here in Dubai, especially with the fine dust we get. Black granite is beautiful but a nightmare for showing streaks and water spots.

Forget the standard blue all-purpose cleaner; it's not suitable and likely contains chemicals that can dull the sealant over time. For granite, especially dark stone, you need a dedicated pH-neutral stone cleaner. Look for brands like Weiman Granite Cleaner or Black Diamond Stoneworks Granite Plus, which are widely available at Ace Hardware, Waitrose, or online on Amazon.ae. These are formulated to clean without leaving residue or damaging the protective seal.

The cloth is just as important. Ditch the regular rags. You need a high-quality, soft, non-abrasive microfibre cloth. The best practice is a two-cloth system: use one dampened with the recommended cleaner to wipe the surface, and immediately follow up with a second, dry microfibre cloth to buff it completely dry. This "dry buffing" step is the real secret to eliminating those streaks.

If the streaking persists even with the right products, it might indicate that the granite's sealant has worn down, which happens faster here due to heat and cleaning frequency. In that case, a professional re-sealing might be needed. For a definitive assessment, you can always call our team for an inspection. We're happy to advise.

Hope that helps get those counters sparkling!
