Black mold found under AC, is it dangerous to sleep there?« Back to Previous Page
|
The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a bit and I just pulled back the corner of the carpet to find a huge patch of black mold underneath. It's right behind the head of my bed in our Jumeirah Park villa. The room has started to smell damp and I'm worried it's making us sick in our sleep. What's the fastest way to get this professionally treated and should we be staying somewhere else until it's fixed?

Based on your description, the situation you've discovered in your Jumeirah Park villa is serious and requires immediate professional attention. The presence of a large patch of black mold, a damp smell, and its proximity to where you sleep is a significant health and safety concern.
The damp, humid climate of Dubai, combined with year-round AC use, creates a perfect environment for mold growth, especially when a leak is present. The mold spores released into the air can indeed cause health issues, particularly during sleep when you are exposed for prolonged periods. Symptoms can range from allergic reactions, coughing, and headaches to more severe respiratory problems, especially for those with asthma or weakened immune systems. For your family's health, I strongly recommend you do not sleep in that room until the issue has been fully assessed and remediated by a professional team. The fastest way to address this is a two-step process. First, a certified mold inspector must conduct a thorough assessment to determine the full extent of the contamination, including inside the AC unit and the wall cavity, and identify the moisture source. Second, a professional remediation team, like ours at Saniservice, must perform the containment, removal, and hygienization of the affected areas. We follow strict UAE standards for mold remediation to ensure it is removed safely and effectively, preventing recurrence. Do not attempt to disturb it yourself, as this can aerosolize the spores and spread the contamination. For immediate assistance and to schedule an emergency inspection, please call our experts at 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com. We can provide a rapid response to assess the danger and begin the remediation process. |
