Can cleaning staff affect my family's health?« Back to Previous Page

After the recent heavy cleaning done by the new staff in our apartment, we’ve noticed a persistent dull headache that sets in every evening. The living room where they were working seems to be the worst affected area, and my throat feels sore too. We've lived here for 2 years, but this is the first time something like this has happened. Has anyone else experienced similar health issues after cleaning staff have worked?

Cleaning staff can certainly have an impact on your family's health. The symptoms you're describing such as a dull headache and sore throat could be related to the cleaning activities that took place recently. In Dubai, we do follow certain regulations for indoor environmental quality but sometimes issues like these arise from factors that aren't always directly linked to regulations.

Firstly, it is important to consider if there was an increase in dust or chemicals during their work. This can happen if the cleaning process stirred up particles from carpets, furniture, or even old allergens and irritants trapped in upholstery. In Dubai, we often face challenges with high humidity which can lead to mold growth and other biological contaminants that could be exacerbated by heavy cleaning.

Another factor might be the use of products that contain harsh chemicals or fragrances. While it is important for cleaning staff to use effective cleaning agents, sometimes they may not follow the correct procedures which can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air causing discomfort and possible health effects.

If you have experienced these symptoms only since the recent cleaning work was done in your living room area, then it's worth considering that this specific space might be more affected. It’s recommended to open windows for ventilation if at all possible to allow fresh air to circulate. However, if the problem persists or worsens, it would be wise to call in a professional indoor environmental quality inspection.

In Dubai, companies like Saniservice provide such services and can help identify any underlying issues that might need addressing. Their contact number is 800-MOLDS or you could email them at hello@saniservice.com for further assistance. This way, you can get a thorough assessment of the situation and take necessary actions to improve your family's health and well-being.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial in Dubai's climate, so it’s always a good idea to keep an eye out for any unusual symptoms that might be related to cleaning or other factors in your home environment.
